FAQs

What Is a 5×10 CNC Router?

A 5×10 CNC Router is a computer-controlled cutting machine that has a table size of 5 feet by 10 feet. It has five coordinate axes, three linear and two rotation coordinates. It is most extensively used in the furniture manufacturing industry to make decorative wall panels, wood doors, and cabinets. It is also specifically used to machine complex curved surface workpieces.

What Are Benefits of Using 5×10 CNC Router?

A 5×10 CNC Router offers incredible accuracy at a high rate of speed and many other benefits. Some of these benefits include:

  • Larger cutting field

Creating large pieces like stair risers is difficult with standard routers, especially in terms of accuracy. However, a 5×10 CNC Router can create such pieces with ease.

  • Reduce wastage

Standard routers do not have the precision of a 5×10 router, and hence there is a constant threat of errors in workpieces. 5×10 CNC Routers eliminate waste caused by human error, producing thousands of identical pieces without wastage.

  • Flawless repeatability

These routers can produce hundreds of pieces that are exactly the same and are ideal for companies that emphasize quality assurance.

  • Easier operation

Since there is minimal physical manipulation, operators can achieve greater expertise in just a few months.

  • Increased production capacity

5×10 CNC Routers are highly efficient, cost-effective, and reduce waste, which in turn increase production capacity.

How to Hold Down the Material?

There are 2 ways to fix the workpiece on working table. One way is by clamps, the other way is by vacuum pump and vacuum table. The latter way is more efficient since it could fast the material by less time and more powerful.

What Are G and M Codes?

In CNC programming controls, a G code is used to control the movement of a CNC machine. G codes dictate how and where the machine should move to fabricate a part. M codes control other miscellaneous functions in the CNC machine, like starting or stopping certain actions or programs.

How Hard Is It to Program a 5×10 CNC Router?

Unlike what many people think, it is not at all hard to program a 5×10 CNC Router. It is not necessary to have programming skills, but knowledge of G code may come in very handy.

It is not necessary to know G code to create CNC programs. You can always use software that can generate the codes that the machine uses to machine the parts.

CNC router manufacturing is compatible with several software programs.

Some of the programs used most frequently include:

  • Vectric VCarve (2D software)
  • Vectric Aspire (3D software)
  • Rhino (3D software)
  • EnRoute
  • Mozaik (Cabinet software)
  • Cabinet Vision (Cabinet software)
  • Haixun (Cabinet Software)

If you don’t want to spend on any software, learning a few basic G code commands can help you write your programs.

You can type your code in plain text and save the file with the right extension, that is, .gcode or .nc. You can then load the file in your CNC controller and run the program.

Do I Need to Calibrate My 5×10 CNC Router?

Yes, regular calibration of your 5×10 CNC Router is necessary to avoid potential bottlenecks in production and consistently meet your customer’s tolerances.

CNC machine calibration is used to diagnose and rectify errors that may deviate over time according to the original specifications of the manufacturer.

How Should I Select Between Different Spindle Power Ratings?

Choosing the right spindle is extremely important.

Depending on your professional use, you can choose from a wide range of spindle revolutions and power. Spindle speeds of 12,000, 15,000, 18,000, 24,000 rpm are available.

However, it does not mean that the spindle is always running at these revolutions. Spindle power is the value of torque multiplied by rotational speed. Horsepower refers to the amount of work being done.

You should choose the spindle power according to the materials that you need to machine.

For machining wood, plastic, laminate, or aluminum with cutters up to 5mm, the spindle with 0.8 kW power and 24,000 rpm is sufficient.

For using cutters up to 8mm you would need a 1kW spindle, for cutters up to 12mm, a 3.3kW spindle, and for cutters up to 16mm, you should have a 5.6 kW spindle.

For steel, you should choose a lower rpm spindle (15,000 to 18,000 rpm) and a 3.3 kW spindle for cutters up to 10mm, a 5.6 kW spindle for cutters up to 12mm, a 7 kW spindle for cutters up to 16mm, and a 10 kW spindle for cutters up to 20mm.

How Do I Know That the Table Size is Right for My Needs?

Table size is important, and you should choose it according to the size of the raw material and the number of pieces that you need to cut at one time.

If you are into furniture production like doors, you need to choose a table size of 4×8, 5×10, or 6×10 feet.

If you want to use the machine to make small crafts or gifts with wood, PVC, plastic, or glass, you can choose a Mini CNC Router to produce several workpieces at one time.

How Does a CNC Vacuum Table Work?

A vacuum table is used to hold workpieces during machining. The device has a perforated tabletop over a vacuum chamber.

A vacuum pump is used to keep the vacuum chamber below ambient pressure. The pressure differential between the outside air and the vacuum chamber holds the workpiece in place on top of the vacuum chamber.

A vacuum table’s main purpose is to allow access to all sides of a machined part, except the side in contact with the vacuum table.

Can You Replace Collets on CNC Router?

A collet is a small device that physically holds the cutting tool in the router’s spindle motor shaft.

They are available in many shapes and sizes depending on the router spindle motor design and tool holder.

It is important to change collets as part of routine maintenance of your CNC Router. It ensures better performance, optimal results, and a longer lifespan for your cutters.

Router collets should be replaced regularly. If you are a heavy user, you may need to do so every three months. When replaced regularly, you can save a lot of time and money.

Should I Opt for DSP Handheld, NC Studio, or Syntec / LNC / Siemens Controller?

All three of these are CNC Router controllers. The DSP handheld controller controls your CNC Router without connecting to a computer.

The NC Studio controller is based on Windows 8 or Windows 10. It lets you control the router through the computer.

The Syntec/Siemens Controller is an independent control system that can control complex processing paths and is ideal for large machines with servo motors.

Hello, the cnc works well since 2017, we use it daily. The buttons on the control are a bit worn, maybe you have a replacement.

In general, I am satisfied with the quality/price ratio purchase. If in the future I want to buy another one, also from Omni.

I was in the market for a new cnc router and happened to stumble on cnc router. I was amazed at the price and the features — the machine is very easy to use and the machine has a great set of instructions. My favorite feature is its accuracy; this machine's accuracy is so high that it can make straight cuts in wood that are just millimeters off from the exact length that I want. It also has a great set of software for controlling the tool path.
