G
Grade: It is the position given to a particular grade of carbide.
Glue Joint: This is a special interlocking grooved pattern that helps in joining two pieces from one edge to another in a secured manner.
Grooving & Engraving: It tool creates very crisp and clean cuts in wood thereby creating detailed patterns such as words, seals, etc.
Guttering Router Bits: This type of router bits is used to carve details on the wooden doors, drawers.
H
Half-Blind Dovetail: It is a joint, where the cut does not go all of the ways through the board. The ends of a half-blind dovetail are usually hidden.
Handrail Router Bits: These types of bits are carbide-tipped, which is used for detailing handrails.
Hardboard: This type of manufactured board is analogous to particle board having a smoother surface. Masonite is a common brand of hardboard.
Half-Round Cutters: It is made from the ‘blanks’ that is “split” or “halved” on the center with the help of a grinding process. This tool has a cross-section half of it is a cylinder and the other is engraving cutter applications.
High Speed Steel: It is a term used to describe a wide range of steel alloys that are used for cutting tools. These materials including Tungsten, Molybdenum, Cobalt, etc are used to produce specific hardness and cutting characteristics.
Hardwood: It is generally tough and heavy wood with a tight, compact grain structure.
Hogging: It is a process of cutting with a large chip load so as to effectively eliminate materials during a machining operation. It is used to produce a part or cavity whose dimensions are equal to the desired finished product.
Hand of Milling Cutters & End Mills: The terms ‘right hand’ or ‘left hand’ refers to the hand of rotations or hand of cut, and hand of flute helix.
- Hand of rotation: The cutting tool revolves around so as to make a cut when seen from a position of a horizontal milling machine and facing the spindle.
- Right-hand rotation: The cutting tool rotates counterclockwise when the tool is viewed from the shank. It is designed to rotate towards the right hand.
- Left-hand rotation: The cutting tool rotates clockwise when the tool is viewed from the shank. It is designed to rotate toward the left hand.
Hand of flute helix: It is the direction where the flute twists away from the viewer around the axis of the tool when viewed from either end of the cutting tool.
- Right-hand helix: Clockwise flute twist (to the right hand) left-hand helix – counterclockwise flute twist (to the left-hand) straight flutes – tools with their cutting edges in planes parallel to the tool axis (no helix).
Helix: It is a point in the path that will generate as it moves at a fixed rate of advance (spirals) along the surface of a cylinder.
Helix angle: The cutting edge angle which a helical cutting edge makes with a plane containing the tool’s axis.
Helical (spiral): It is a term that describes a cutting edge or flute which progresses uniformly around a cylindrical surface in an axial direction.
I
Infeed: It is the direction in which a workpiece is placed in a blade or a cutter.
Inlay: It is the process of decorating a surface by in-setting materials of different shades, color, texture and substances. It is ornamented in such a manner as to preserve a continuous and smooth plane. Inlay uses a wide range of materials, which includes, wood, stone, ivory, glass, mother-of-pearl, and tortoiseshell.

Jig: It is a device that is used to make special cuts, guide a tool, or aid in woodworking operations.
Joinery: This creates woodworking pieces with the help of an array of joint-making methods.
Joinery Bits: These types of bits can be found in different shape and size ideal for joining two separate materials together.
Joinery Router Bits: It is used to carve puzzle-like pieces, which are used to connect joints together.
Justification: It is the horizontal positioning of the text that is quite pertinent to the margins. Text can be Left Justified, Center Justified, Right Justified, or Fully Justified. Center and Full Justification are the most frequently used in the awards industry.

Kerf: In slot cutters, the width of the cutting edge.
Keyhole Router Bits: The keyhole router bit is used to cut keyhole shaped slots into plaques, picture frames, and other hanging woodworks.
L
Letter Making Router Bits: This type of bits is used to create letters for professional symbols and signs.
Lock Miter: This type of joint is made by tying the interlocking parts together with ends cut at an angle.
Lumber Ruler: It is a tool that resembles a ruler that has a handle at one end and a hood at the other end. This ruler is used to estimate the board footage of a piece of lumber.
Lumber-Core Plywood: Plywood is a thin sheet coating that is glued to a core of narrow boards. Lumber-core plywood differs from regular plywood which is made up of successive layers of alternating grain coating.
Legend plate: This small carved tag is affixed to a machine or other objects that contains instructions, warnings or mechanical data.

Micrograin Carbide: This conventional carbide includes small-sized particles. The finer structure of particle is made into a material that is stronger and tougher than the conventional carbide having a longer life.
MDF Router Bits: This type of router bits helps in properly cutting and engraving MDF wood boards.
Miniature Router Bits: This type of bits is used for a variety of small-scale woodworking tasks.
Miter: It is the process of cutting a material with an equal angle. Most cuts are made at 45 degrees so that the materials form a 90-degree angle when putting together.
Miter-and-Spline Joint: It is a joint with two mitered surfaces that are connected with a spline.
Moldboard: This type of wood is used for creating tangible items.
Molding or Moulding: It is the process of making or shaping an object.
Molding Router Bits: This type of bits is used for creating decorative items like marble, plaster, and wood. It is also used in interior designing.
Mortise: These slots are carved into pieces of wood and get interlocked with tenons which are also carved into the adjoining piece of wood thereby forming a dovetail joint.
Mortise and Tenon Joint: It is a joint in which the tenon, or formed shoulder projection, of one board, fits into a complementary mortise on another board.
Mortise Router Bits: Mortise bits are used for engraving square shaped slots. It is typically used for hinges, locksets and cutting mortises.
Mortiser: It is also known as Mortise Router Bits.
Multi-Form Router Bit: These multi-form router bits are particularly designed to cut a range of molding patterns, profiles, and architectural details.

Non-Piloted Bit: It is a Wood Router bit without a guide bearing.

Panel Pilot Router Bits: This router bit is used to create an opening in panels, windows, drywall, and doors. Panel pilot bits are often used to trim materials such as mica, veneer and other laminates.
Plastic Cutting Router Bits: These types of router bits are particularly designed to cut plastic materials.
Plastic Spiral ‘O’ Flute Router Bits: It is designed to create smooth cuts in the materials like acrylic, plastics, and wood.
Plunge Form Router Bits: This type of routers bits is perfect for making deep incision. It is considered perfect for freehand scripting and inlay work.
Plunge Router: This Wood Router mounted on a spring loaded base. The Wood Router can be turned on and plunged down into the workpiece.
Plywood Router Bits: It is specially designed for cutting plywood.
Pantograph: It is a mechanical instrument that is used for tracing a template with a stylus hinged to the arms of the machine. It marks on the surface of the material that is to be engraved.
Parallel Cutters: This cutting edge is parallel to the shank of the tool and produces a cut with straight edges.
Photoengraving: It is a chemical etching process that is used on magnesium and zinc. Photoengraving is commonly used for making rubber stamp dies or hot-stamping dies.
Profiling: This is a technique of cutting through a piece of material with the help of rotary engraving cutter. This procedure is commonly used for carving badge blanks and cutting out irregular shapes.

Rabbeting Router Bits: These types of bits are used to carve patterns both vertically and horizontally in the wood. Rabbeting bits are usually purchased in sets and they are commonly used to notch the edge of your building supplies.
Raised Panel Router Bits: These types of bits are available in both horizontal and vertical profiles. They can be used with the stile and rail bits to create perfect edges on door panels.
Round over Router Bits: This type of bits is used to create round edges of tables, chairs, and variety of home fixtures.

Sign-Making Router Bits: This type of router bits is used to carving special type of signs in conjunction with the letter making router bits.
Solid Surface Router Bits: It is used to cut slots in the wood making counter tops, bathroom sinks, bathtubs, vanity top, floor tiles, etc.
Spiral Router Bits: It helps in making a deep incision to the wood surface. It is drill-like machine that simply make deep cuts.
Straight Plunge Router Bits: This type of router bits is used for routing straight grooves, rabbets, trimming materials, joints, and mortises.

Table Edge Router Bits: It is primarily used for creating shapes on the edges of the table parts. A table edge router bit is able to reduce the visual thickness creating detailed edges.
Template Router Bits: This type of bits is specifically designed to make routing and woodworking easy.
Trim Router Bits: this type of bits is ideal for making an incision. It is usually used with a handheld trim router to make precise line designs on wood.

V Groove Router Bits: These types of bits are usually cut V-shaped grooves in the wood for creating miter folds, sign making, and lettering.
V Paneling Router Bits: It is used to create a V-shaped groove panels by cutting 2 separate pieces of wood forming a V shape when joined together.

Wainscot Paneling Router Bits: this type of bits is designed to carve decorative designs in the wainscot wall panel.
Weatherseal Router Bits: It is used for re-grooving window and door frames to create a slot for insulating inserts.
Window Sash Router Bits: It is designed to cut sash window frames and parts of glass door including rails, stiles, mullions, etc.
Woodworking Router Bits: it is primarily used for trimming and cutting wood for creating different types of furniture.
